Average Smoky Mountain Climate

Tennessee has a temperate climate with short, mild winters. The average winter snowfall is 12 inches.

Cool fall temperatures bring crisp air and brilliant fall colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the Smoky Mountains to experience the fall foliage.

Spring comes in early March bringing flowering trees and shrubs, and warmer weather. Our average Spring brings temperatures between 45 & 70 degrees.

Summer arrives in the Smokies by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. The Great Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee are a great place to escape hot summers as the air is cooler at higher elevations. Learn to make your own predictions!

1st-3rd Showers and thunderstorms, followed by clearing skies and cooler temperatures. 4th-7th Rain and thunderstorms prevail for the Carolinas and Georgia. Localized thunderstorms over Florida. 8th-11th More humidity and more thunderstorms. 12th-15th Hot and humid. Showers and thunderstorms percolate in the sultry air. 16th-19th Coastal rain and fog through Florida. Hot, dry weather prevails elsewhere. 20th-23rd High humidity, areas of fog, and even a few heavy thunderstorms for the Gulf States. Some thunderstorms may spawn tornadoes. 24th-27th Showers and thunderstorms spread in from the west. 28th-30th Warm and humid, with more showers and scattered thunderstorms.
